Stylistic Inspiration and Influences - NASA

Aside from the aforementioned eruption of zippers, pockets, and buttons in context of the Star Trek franchise's costume history, there were several other major stylistic influences on the Enterprise-era Starfleet uniform jumpsuit.

Perhaps most notably was the stylistic inspiration seemingly drawn from NASA uniform jumpsuits.

Like the Enterprise-era jumpsuits, NASA jumpsuits (as pictured) share the following characteristics:

* front-closing blue jumpsuit

* collar

* reinforced shoulders

* chest pockets

* sleeve patch

* sleeve pocket

* topstitched sleeve cuffs

* sleeve cuff Velcro

* 1" topstitched waist straps

* thigh pockets

* calf pockets

* leg zipper/gusset

* black boots
