Analysis, part 22 - Sleeve Zipper and Gusset

At the bottom of the outer sleeve seams of the ENT jumpsuits were zippers which could be opened to widen/loosen the sleeves.

When the lower sleeve was unzipped, the overall lower circumference of the sleeve was extended via a triangular fabric "gusset" which provided extra wearing ease without allowing the unzipped sleeve edges to flop around.

(You've probably seen a similar feature at the bottom of lightweight polyester exercise pants.)

The sleeve zippers extended all the way to the sleeve cuffs, and the zipper pulls were tucked inside.

The zipper was edge stitched around its perimeter (of course), and there was an additional row of topstitching ¼" away around its perimeter, as well.

The gusset was hemmed (with about 1" hem allowance, if the screen-used ENT jumpsuit "Lynsioux" photographed and shared is indicative of a standard) prior to being attached to the sleeve.

The actual gusset panel was attached to the lower sleeve seam allowances/zipper tape.

As you can see, the "sleeve gusset" was fully functional:

However, the "sleeve gusset" was seldom used on the show (we only ever saw it intentionally used twice).

Also - brace yourself - the lower sleeve zipper height appeared to vary.

(I bet you didn't see that one coming!)

Here are a couple examples, and we'll just leave it at that.
