Analysis, part 9b - Right Chest Pocket, Fastening and Topstitching

The pocket was fastened to the jumpsuit via edge stitching around its perimeter.

As mentioned previously, this was an expanding pocket, so to allow the pocket to expand it was folded over on itself toward the middle and partially edge stitched again vertically through all layers along the top and bottom of the centermost edge.

The actual height of the "expanding pocket edge stitching" varied; note in the previous two Archer examples that his edge stitching extended past his pocket zipper all the way to the top of his "pencil pocket", or approximately 2".

Reed's, however, appeared to extend downward about 1" and not even all the way to his pocket zipper.

Hoshi's and Crewman Cutler's both appeared to extend to the bottom of their pocket zipper:

So, was there a standard height for the "expanding pocket edge stitch"?

Based on the available evidence, the most we can deduce is:

1 - The height of the edge stitching was presumably (or, at least, ideally, in our opinion) the same at the top and bottom of the pocket.

2 - The edge stitching should presumably (or, again, at least ideally, in our opinion) extend downward to either the upper edge or lower edge of the pocket zipper, or to the top of the "pencil pocket."

Furthermore, when such discrepancies arise, we generally recommend referencing "hero costumes" as a standard (as opposed to extras/background/stunt/etc.), and the more "hero" the costume, the more probable the standard.

Seeing as the star of the show - the show's captain - is about as "hero" as one can get, we loosely recommend using Archer's uniform as a reference for an ideal screen-accurate standard in this regard, but with the variation even amongst the main cast it's really nothing more than that - a loose recommendation!

In addition to the edge stitching and "expanding pocket edge stitching," the right chest pocket was embellished/reinforced with additional rows of horizontal topstitching ¼" from its upper and lower edges.

At the centermost upper and lower corners of the pocket, the aforementioned upper and lower edge stitching, ¼" topstitching, and "expanding pocket edge stitching" all caught the front facing as well, further securing it.
