Analysis, preface

Believe us, we know it's easy to take one look at the Enterprise-era Starfleet uniforms and feel intimidated, especially if you're only a moderately-skilled sewer/costumer/seamstress! Relax, though, because we're going to break the uniform down for you one piece at a time so you'll know it inside and out (literally) by the time you finish this analysis and are ready to begin making your own!

There are many characteristics to the ENT jumpsuit that make it what it is, and they're all important, so please don't be intimidated by the length of our analysis, either! (We do offer an abridged version of this analysis, which doesn't have as many examples but still highlights all the major characteristics of the ENT jumpsuit.)

Furthermore, unlike some of the other Starfleet uniforms we've examined, determining ideal "screen-accurate" standards regarding some of the ENT jumpsuit characteristics is practically impossible; as you'll see, these uniforms were really all over the place in terms of zipper lengths, pocket sizes, collar heights, sleeve cuff widths, etc., etc.

We've determined what we believe are ideal standards for the ENT jumpsuits based on the evidence we analyzed during the course of our research, and we will be presenting our findings over the course of our analysis. The standards we determined are also reflected in our ENT jumpsuit sewing pattern.

However, there's a multitude of examples which do not conform to our arbitrary "standards," many of which we also present throughout our analysis, both for the sake of completeness and to demonstrate other options you may which to employ than those we recommend with your jumpsuit.
