Stylistic Inspiration and Influences - FIRST CONTACT Flight Suits

Another stylistic inspiration for the Enterprise-era Starfleet jumpsuits appeared to be the flight suits in First Contact worn by Zefram Cochrane, Riker, and Geordi on their historic flight breaking the warp barrier - which were, in turn, apparently inspired by the aforementioned NASA jumpsuits.

Like the Enterprise-era Starfleet jumpsuits, the First Contact flight suits were blue denim ("wrong side" out - more on that later), but they also shared several other characteristics with both the ENT jumpsuits and NASA uniforms.

For instance, the First Contact flight suits had topstitched collars and were front-closing with a front facing sewn into the collar.

They also had diagonal chest pockets, similar in style to the aforementioned NASA jumpsuits.

There was, of course, a patch designating the assignment/mission:

The First Contact flight suits' sleeve cuffs overlapped and closed via hook-and-loop tape ("Velcro"), and they also had calf pockets:

There are some fantastic detail photos of Zefram Cochrane's First Contact flight suit on the Filmwelt Collection blog; we encourage you to check them out!
