Analysis, part 25 - Leg Zipper and Gusset

At the bottom of the ENT jumpsuits' pant legs' outer seams were vertical leg zippers and "gussets" basically identical in style and construction to those at the bottom of the sleeves

The only notable difference between the leg zippers/gussets and those on the sleeves was that the leg zippers/gussets were taller, which is hardly surprising.

Unlike pretty much every other aspect of the ENT jumpsuits, the leg zippers/gussets were entirely consistent from uniform to uniform and didn't vary at all!

While the side leg zipper consistently extended upward past the top of the calf pocket, the actual height of the zipper varied considerably (at least relative to the height of the pocket).

For instance, in the publicity photo below, Archer's leg zipper appeared to be about 1" taller than his calf pocket, Travis' and Hoshi's appeared to extend about 2" above their calf pockets, and Trip's appeared to extend about 3" past his calf pocket!

Trip's, however, were sometimes about 3" taller than his calf pockets, and sometimes more like 2":

It's tough to say for sure, but Reed's appeared to be about 2", about the same as Travis' and Hoshi's:

The leg zippers on the screen-used ENT jumpsuit "Lynsioux" photographed and shared appeared extend to about 1 ½" above the top of the calf pockets:

So who knows what was up with all that?

Like the sleeve zippers, the leg zippers were edge stitched around their perimeters, then topstitched again ¼" from the edge stitching.

(See the examples above in addition to the one below.)

The gusset was hemmed (with about 1" hem allowance, if the screen-used ENT jumpsuit "Lynsioux" photographed and shared is indicative of a standard) prior to being attached to the pant leg.

The actual gusset panel was attached to the lower sleeve seam allowances/zipper tape.

As you've seen, like the "sleeve gusset," the "leg gusset" was fully functional; however, it was almost never used on the show (we only ever saw it intentionally used once).
